The fast bowler Expected to Feature a Key Part in Iconic Rivalry
The pace bowler has secured 309 wickets in 71 appearances with an impressive average.
Australia's selection chief Bailey has confirmed that captain Pat Cummins will be a central figure in this winter's Ashes series.
There were concerns that the veteran bowler might sit out due to a ongoing back issue that had not yet healed.
Initial reports from the squad suggested no definitive call had been made regarding whether he would play, with the Test matches scheduled to begin on November 21 in Perth.
Bailey expressed that his recovery is on track and was "optimistic" about the likelihood of being involved.
"We know that time is getting short and various factors involved, aside from the back issue, but further aspects," he commented.
"We're encouraged. We firmly believe that he'll participate in a major part. With luck starting in Perth. Otherwise, we'll reassess."
Injury History
He was sidelined the white-ball matches against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals last month after examinations confirmed a lower back issue.
He has a history of recurring issues, with recurrences in multiple past seasons leading to absences from multiple domestic campaigns in a short span.
The bowler mentioned he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his recovery plan to ensure his availability for the series.
The selector indicated that there was no confirmation if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his recovery but admitted it was "becoming urgent" for him to be fit for the first Test.
Alternative Arrangements
In case of absence, veteran batsman Smith will assume leadership.
The talented all-rounder was recently pulled out from the ODI lineup for their ODI contests against the subcontinent side as a safety move because of an abdominal issue.
The selector characterized it as a "minor" injury and mentioned that Green will play in the state-level matches, so will be "in a good place to resume bowling."
"Extensive planning has gone into creating the schedule for him to be available for the first Test as an batting and bowling option," he elaborated.
"He was only going to play the starting games regardless. His aggressive style the bat in limited-overs, if it causes any delay for 24 more hours, the choice was made to take a cautious route."
